Do you ever just have those moments when your heart is so tender, so pliable, so receptive that any kind word, a whisper from the Word, or a well-timed quote just sinks in deep and warms you from the inside out?
That’s been my heart lately. I cannot get enough of the Word because every word seems to speak to my need for comfort, security, identity, peace, and clarity. Each word is inlaid with the rich truth that
-God’s love is everlasting.
-His goodness is eternal.
-His grace is enough.
-He is the one true God.
And then, not only does He speak through His Word to my tender heart, He sends just the right people at just the right time to express in words what my heart can’t capture because it is so full, so deep, and so overflowing with gratitude that the words just don’t come.
Sound familiar?
Maybe not.
Maybe you’re in a season right now where your heart doesn’t feel tender.
Maybe you’re mad, angry, bitter, upset at how your expectations and reality don’t line up.
Maybe you’re disappointed in people because you put your hope in them and they’ve let you down.
Maybe you’re surrounded by negativity and you feel outnumbered and defeated.
Maybe you feel alone…like you’re the last person standing carrying hope, positivity, and kindness in whatever situation you’re in.
Can I tell you that I’ve been there?
And, it’s hard. Really hard.
But here’s what I know to be true.
-You are not alone.
-God is greater than your feelings.
-God is bigger than the things that threaten to consume you.
And, God’s heart is tender towards you.
Not because you’ve earned it, deserved it, or been good enough for it.
It’s grace.
And it is His grace alone that is moving towards your heart of stone with a desire to make it tender yet again…even in the pain, the suffering, the shaking, and the shaping.
I know.
Because that’s what He’s done for me in the past.
“The same way a loving father feels toward his children— that’s but a sample of your tender feelings toward us, your beloved children, who live in awe of you.”
Psalms 103:13 TPT
“I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 11:19 NIV
So, take heart, my friends.
God is working in you to do what you cannot do in and of yourself.
Maybe tonight, before you go to bed, you whisper this prayer over your heart…
“Jesus, come be in me all that I am not.” (Colossians 3:3-4)
And then wait.
This is the prayer that takes His tender heart and makes it your own.
Share with someone who might need some encouragement tonight.
