Significance. Webster’s defines it as “the quality of being worthy of attention; importance.”
Sadly, most of us are looking for it in the “spectacular” moments of life when we do something big and grand.
We’ve bought the lie that to REALLY matter and to REALLY make a difference, we have to do the BIG thing when in reality God is calling us to just do the thing right in front of us.
Jennie Allen, in her book Restless: Because You Were Made for More, says, “We attach easily to the lie that our lives are average and insignificant.”
Every moment of our lives has added up to THIS moment.
Right here.
Right now.
Right where we are.
Today.
All we have to do is lean into it and make the most of it.
“But, how?,” you may ask.
Paul gives us concrete action steps for living a life of meaning and purpose.
“So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it.
Pursue the things over which Christ presides.
Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you.
Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is.
See things from his perspective.”
Colossians 3:1-2 MSG
I wonder how we would be different if we started seeing the dailies of life from Christ’s perspective rather than only looking at what’s in front of us?
Who knows?
We might change the world and not even know it.
